Amateur radio in the UK is licensed by Ofcom.

  • Volunteers must hold a valid amateur radio licence.

  • Standard licensing conditions apply at all times.

  • In rare, extreme circumstances, Ofcom may issue temporary exemptions or guidance to enable emergency support.

Amateur operators are expected to:

  • Operate within the law.

  • Respect data protection (GDPR) when handling messages.

  • Work under the direction of the coordinating agency.
